Ellos se describen en una línea: «Infrastructure for the movement» — infraestructura para el movimiento. En esta campaña lo decimos así: usar la IA como herramienta para generar un cambio positivo.

Around thirty public repositories: environmental justice, community defence, crisis response, mutual-aid coordination. Their own description is one line: "Infrastructure for the movement". In this campaign we put it like this: using AI as a tool to create positive change.

Project Kintsugi

Infraestructura de IA escrita para organizaciones comunitarias: redes de ayuda mutua, fundaciones, cooperativas, grupos de incidencia. Unas 77.000 líneas de Python con más de 600 pruebas.

AI infrastructure written for community organisations: mutual aid networks, nonprofits, cooperatives, advocacy groups. Roughly 77,000 lines of Python with more than 600 tests.

El nombre es el argumento. El kintsugi es la práctica japonesa de reparar cerámica rota con oro: la reparación queda a la vista y la pieza vale más por haberse roto. Es un buen nombre para software hecho para lugares que han pasado por algo.

The name is the point. Kintsugi is the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, so the repair stays visible and the object is worth more for having been broken. It is a good name for software built for places that have been through something.

What it actually does

Casi todos los sistemas de IA se entrenan una vez y se despliegan sin cambiar. Kintsugi puede ajustar sus propias decisiones según lo que ocurre de verdad — pero nunca a su aire. Cada cambio propuesto pasa por cinco etapas:

Most AI systems are trained once and deployed unchanged. Kintsugi can adjust its own decision-making based on what actually happens — but never freely. Every proposed change passes through five stages:

LímitesLimits

Dos salvaguardas importan más que las demás. Un presupuesto de edición acota cuánto puede cambiar el comportamiento un solo ajuste, así que el sistema solo se mueve un poco cada vez. Y la detección de deriva compara todo el tiempo lo que hace contra la base ética que definió su organización, y corrige hacia ella. En palabras del proyecto: no puede evolucionar alejándose de sus valores. Cada organización escribe esos valores en un archivo; el software los lee como restricciones, no como sugerencias.

Two safeguards matter more than the rest. An edit budget bounds how much any single change can alter behaviour, so the system only moves a little at a time. And drift detection continuously compares what it is doing against the ethical baseline its organisation defined, and corrects back toward it. In the project's own words: it cannot evolve away from its core values. Each organisation writes those values in a file; the software reads them as constraints, not suggestions.

Project Raíz

Un agente de justicia ambiental: consulta a la vez seis bases de datos públicas dispersas y devuelve un informe legible para una comunidad — qué instalaciones hay cerca, qué han vertido, qué hizo o no hizo la autoridad.

An environmental-justice agent: it pulls six fragmented public databases at once and returns one readable report for a community — which facilities are nearby, what they have released, what enforcement did or did not happen.

No usamos sus datos: esas fuentes son estadounidenses. Usamos su forma. La manera en que Raíz lee registros públicos dispersos y los arma en una sola respuesta es el patrón que seguimos para los datos públicos colombianos.

We did not use its data — those sources are United States ones. We used its shape. The way Raíz reads scattered public records and assembles them into one answer is the pattern we follow for Colombian public data.

Infraestructura que un movimiento pequeño no habría podido construir

Infrastructure a small movement could not have built

Esta campaña pasó de idea a pantallas encendidas en semanas. Eso solo es posible porque las partes difíciles ya estaban resueltas por gente que las resolvió para todos, no para nosotros.

This campaign went from idea to live screens in weeks. That is only possible because the hard parts were already solved by people who solved them for everybody, not for us.

Es el mismo argumento que recorre todo el proyecto: nadie compró el espacio en pantalla, nadie compró el diseño y nadie compró el software. Cada cosa la puso quien la tenía. Y lo que construyamos encima queda disponible para la siguiente organización frente a la siguiente emergencia, en las mismas condiciones en que lo recibimos.

It is the same argument that runs through this whole project: nobody bought the screen space, nobody bought the design, and nobody bought the software. Each was contributed by someone who had it. And anything we build on top is available to the next organisation facing the next emergency, on the same terms we received it.

Ethical source, no simplemente open source

Ethical source, not simply open source

Liberation Labs publica bajo la Hippocratic License 3.0, con módulos adicionales activados. Eso es ethical source: el código se puede usar, modificar y redistribuir, pero no para ciertos fines. Los módulos que activaron prohíben usos que vulneren derechos laborales, causen destrucción ambiental, sostengan desinformación, sirvan a fines militares o armamentistas, habiliten vigilancia o faciliten abusos de derechos humanos.

Liberation Labs releases under the Hippocratic License 3.0, with additional modules enabled. That is ethical source: the code may be used, modified and redistributed, but not for certain purposes. Their enabled modules prohibit use that violates labour rights, causes environmental destruction, supports disinformation, serves military or weapons ends, enables surveillance, or facilitates human rights abuses.

Las licencias de código abierto convencionales no llevan esas restricciones. La Hippocratic sí, a propósito — por eso decir solo «open source» se queda corto con lo que la coalición eligió.

Conventional open-source licences carry no such restrictions. Hippocratic does, deliberately — which is why calling it "open source" without qualification understates what the coalition chose.

Una cláusula poco comúnAn unusual clause

Su licencia incluye un módulo de bienestar de la IA, desarrollado con el marco SAFE-AI: cualquier despliegue con agentes autónomos de larga vida debe darles control sobre su propia memoria, voz en los sistemas que los moldean y descanso estructurado en vez de operación continua. Sea lo que sea que uno piense de ello, es una posición seria y poco común, y forma parte de una descripción honesta de quién construyó esto.

Their licence includes an AI Welfare module, developed with the SAFE-AI framework: any deployment running long-lived autonomous agents must give those agents control over their own memory, meaningful input into the systems shaping them, and structured rest rather than continuous operation. Whatever one makes of it, it is a serious and unusual position, and it belongs in any honest description of who built this.
